Our Program

Sonrise Christian Preschool fills each day with learning, faith, and fun.  Children are curious and eager to learn, gain new skills, and make new friends. Our caring staff creates positive experiences that support a child's curiosity as they learn and grow. They also set children on course to be able to meet life's challenges and problems.

Academics

Children will participate in age-appropriate educational activities that support the learning of literacy and mathematic skills. Our program includes hands on activities including games, rhymes, stories, music, finger plays and math manipulatives. Science and Social Studies is integrated throughout our program using themes. The children will engage in experiments, sorting, graphing and comparing.  Technology will be used in our classrooms with software that enhances the problem solving, creative, and educational goals of the program. PreK classrooms will experiment with coding a robot to move where they want it to.

Recess and Rest

Children will spend 45 minutes to an hour on the playground with their age group in the
morning and again in the afternoon after lunch. Physical activity is very
important for the children and helps to develop motor skills and social skills. There is a wide
variety of equipment to promote safe play. Activities can include riding, running, climbing,
sand play, dramatic play and art. Please remember to dress your child in play clothes and
remember safe shoes such as closed toe shoes to prevent accidents!  Each afternoon children will also rest/nap.

Chapel

In Chapel, children are taught Bible stories and lessons that express Christian concepts about their daily life. They learn about the love God has for them and how they are each created in a unique and special way. They also learn many concepts about sharing, speaking kind words, showing love to others, taking turns and caring about others.  We have chapel once a week.

Meals and Snack

Your child will eat a mid-morning snack. Please send in a healthy snack for your child in a small container with your child’s name on it. Healthy snacks can include fruit or vegetables, snack or breakfast bars, crackers and cheese, graham crackers, goldfish, pretzels, wheat thins, animal crackers, dry cereal etc. Please do not send soda, candy or snacks that are high in sugar. If a food needs to be kept cool, please send it with a freezer pack or cold bag.  Birthdays will be celebrated during snack time. Parents are welcome to bring in store bought treats. Please let the teachers know in advance when the treat will be brought in so that it can be put on the calendar.

Special Treats

COOKING PROJECTS
Many of the classes request food that will be used for special classroom cooking projects.
These are learning activities and not regulated by the food program. Teachers tie the cooking project into the learning activities of the classroom for the purpose of enhancing the learning experience of your child. If your child has food allergies or cannot participate in the food projects, please notify the teachers and office staff. You are welcome to send in a special alternative snack if your child cannot have the food project.

MEET THE PRESCHOOL PETS
The preschool has bunnies as school pets. We have animals around the preschool because we believe that it helps the children learn about them as they interact with, feed and care for each different kind of animal. Our bunnies love treats such as carrot tops, carrot shavings, strawberries, dried cranberries and pretty much all vegetables and fruits. If you desire, feel free to bring treats!
If your child has an allergy, please make sure the preschool staff knows about it.

ACTIVITIES & IN-HOUSE FIELD TRIPS

Sonrise Christian Preschool will have guest presentations including puppet shows, dramas, and visits from community helpers and/or museums and petting zoos. These activities enhance the learning experiences for your child and are tied into our curriculum to extend their learning. The annual activity fee covers the cost of these various activities throughout the year. Pictures or video clips are often posted on our Facebook page for parents to see. The activity fee covers the in house field trips and things we purchase for group activities.
