Safety

At Sonrise Christian Preschool keeping each child safe is top priority and is reflected in our comprehensive safety policy.

FIRE DRILLS
Sonrise Christian Preschool performs a fire drill each month for the safety of your children.  Evacuation routes are posted in each classroom and in the office. Drills are scheduled at all hours of the day and during all types of activities in order to ensure that children know what to do in every possible situation. If you happen to be here when the fire alarm is going off, please exit the building with the classes and wait for the clearance to return to the building.  Safety drills are done regularly throughout the year, including intruder protocols and weather emergencies.

EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSING
Perilous weather conditions may cause closings or delays at the preschool. We typically mirror the decisions made by Pinellas County School in these matters. If the Pinellas County Schools will be closed, usually the preschool will also be closed. In the case of the preschool closing early, information will be sent out through the Facebook page.

FOR COMMUNICATION REASONS, IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT PARENTS BE ON THE FACEBOOK PAGE!

SECURITY
Providing your child with a safe and secure learning environment is one of our top priorities.
We have installed security doors at the entrance of the preschool. Each family will have their
own family code to enter the preschool. Split families will have their own codes. If you need
to change your family code or disable it, please come to the office and we will be happy to
take care of that for you. If you are unable to code in, please ring the bell.

CHECKING IN & OUT
Please escort your child to class and make sure the child is received by a staff member.  Classroom staff are expected to acknowledge children with a warm welcome. Separation anxiety can sometimes be just as difficult for the parent as it is for the child. We suggest a hug, reassurance that you will be back at the end of the day, and then not lingering too long.  In most cases the child adjusts quickly to the classroom and gets involved. If that does not happen, we will work together to develop strategies to assist in your child’s adjustment.

PARKING
The preschool parking lot is very busy during drop off and pick up times. The safety of our children is the main priority. Please drive carefully and slowly. Children do NOT pay attention to cars; therefore, we have to pay extra attention to them. Please keep your child close to you in the parking lot.
